Well, yesterday was a very busy day – sorry for not blogging sooner, but we have been flat out. We started the day exploring the park around the hostel, then we headed off to the game. We finished the game and then headed to what we were told were night markets, but what turned out to be a massive all-night food court for dinner. After sampling some more Japanese delicacies, it was back the the hostel and a mountain of laundry. We packed for today and then retired, for our 6 am wake up today.
I'll let some of the boys fill in the blanks from yesterday. Here's George and Youngy with their take on Saturday.
We commenced the day at around 7 and went down for an interesting take on breakfast. a bit of free time followed breakfast with the boys going to the shops and purchasing 'healthy' snacks for the day. We then travelled to Doshisha Kori High School, where we played 2 matches against Josho Gakuen High School. The under 14's played a team of under 15's and what looked like the Japanese Sumo team. The under 14s went down but showed true Grammar spirit against the larger foe. Then the 1st 15 played against the 1st's of Josho. This game was a very physical game as most of the Japanese forwards had a weight advantage of 15kg. The 1st's went down but left their mark as they played with heart and passion. The first try of the tour scored from a terrific cross field kick to Bernard Smalberger who scored in the corner. The only major injury was to Adam Young, who has strained his hamstring, but he should be okay for the next match. After the game the Grammar boys traded gifts with the Japanese boys who were extremly impressed at how the Grammar boys held up on the field. After the game, the Japanese girls saw how well the Grammar boys played and Elliot Barrett capitilised on this. He was somwhat of a super star to these girls. Unfortunately, he was unale to pursue a relationship as he was on tour, had no form of comunication and also their attraction to each other was based purely on lust and won't survive the rigours of distance.
Amazing how fact merges with fiction once girls enter the equation!!
Here's Sean to give his take on the 14s game.
The match against the navy reds was not only a challenge but also a very entertaining and different game. We played on an artificial field with kids a lot older and bigger then most of the team. Thanks to great tackles and try saving deffence we were able to hold them off at times but sometimes it was extremely hard. They played with good spirit and were very humble before and after the game. Tries to Harry Sellars and Robert Mcburney we were back into the game. Final score was 10 -22 to the opposition.
Sean – Out
We gave out our tour awards for the first time – Blake E and Max took out the SBW award for best hits of the game, and Jedd and Josh took out the Superman awards for best on ground.
Internet here is dodgy - will post pics later.
